trying to hunt

Only been out a few times to many projects. But the few times have seen a few deer need some fresh venison. Set a coon trap last night so that will get me out every day.love this time of year.

Its spring and believe it or not but my thoughts start turning to deer hunting. Venison is about gone from last years harvest so of coarse one needs to look at getting more. So will begin my every once in a while post so we will be talk.

Sorry I have been so lame about posting after I shot my deer been very busy . Tomorrow is the start of gun season and David and I will be out . I have been setting some traps and still seeing some deer so hope we can put more venison in the freezer . I do have a doe permit so we will see . Well passing on all the small deer has paid off , it's not a pope and young buck but a nice size . Now I will try to see if I see a huge deer during rut . I shot the deer Wednesday night and Thursday Jennifer and Katie were bugging me let's have steak dinner . I was not in the mood to start cutting into the deer but after some persuasion from Paula , I went for it . To get the tenderloin out of it only took about fifteen minutes , and they tasted great . Know we have to get David a buck .

I am proud of my self because for the first time I am sticking to my pre season goal of not shooting a small buck . Almost every night I am seeing small deer such as spikes and four points and I have them in the cross hairs , but I keep waiting . Now as the season gets later I may need to take a small one for the venison but we are not there yet.

Had a great weekend Jeffery , Heidie , and Adrian have been in town and one forgets how fast kids grow . The weather ended up being very nice for the whole weekend hunted both days with David we both saw deer but no shooters yet again , I am being , patient pre rut is just around the corner and all the bucks will start to move . Hopefully I can get out again tonight . The weather is looking cool all week .

Wednesday hunt

Wednesday again I saw no deer . On Tuesday night we had a front come threw with very high winds . Went I was walking out to my stand every apple tree was loaded with apples on the ground . As dark was getting near and the deer started to move there is an apple tree behind me about twenty yards and I could hear a deer crunching on an apple . I was sitting on my seat shaking my head. Because the cover of coarse is to thick behind me to see , and that's the way that goes .

I need to correct this i have been seeing deer but they all seem to be little ones and if i am going to drag a deer across the swamp it better be worth my while unless someone else drags it . But since i am hunting alone i am going to be just a little picky . Weather looks great for this week so i should be able to hunt every night .

opening day

today was opening day yea. David went out this morning and saw nothing . This was kind of surprising after seeing what was on the trail cam . I went out tonight and saw five deer two doe and three bucks all three were spikes . To small for opening day. we will see what the next day will bring.

Every year around this time , my thoughts turn to my list of
Hunting stuff . These are little things I put in my camo pants to help
me after a deer is shot it changes year to year . A few years back I
started putting latex gloves in my pocket because for some reason I
would break out in hives when I field dressed a deer . But the strange
part is when I butchered the animal no hives would appear . As I have
gotten older I am very picky on how sharp my knife is , I think if it
would be practical I would use a long straight razor , it would work
great. I also have things that are just small items such as little bit
of rope , small dish towel, plastic bag, and this year a small rope
saw to split the sternum in the field . These few little things will
help me when I get home and either hang or quarter the deer depending
on the temp.

This is a little bit bigger buck than the last one and all the velvet is off. Lets hope the size keeps going up. this is the greatest part of bow hunting the build up to opening day now with a camera it even has more drama and anticipation to the whole thing . Talk to you later.

Today was the first day that you could buy doe permits. So in
celebration I bought one, a doe permit that is. My plan is to try and
use this permit in the early season Doe hunt and if I am successful I
can then be patient looking for a big buck in the regular season.
That's the plan anyway see if I can be successful .

camping and fishing

My family and I went camping over Labor day weekend and had a great
time . Did all the usual things a family likes to do fishing cooking
hot dogs and playing games at the picnic table . The best part of the
weekend was being able to share it with our first grandson Adrian .
Everyone enjoyed having him there and spoiled him every min mom would
let us. Know it's back to the next season and get ready for
bow-hunting. I think I will put the trail cam back out in a day or two
looking for more great pics .

My low battery light was on yesterday when I went to exchange my memory card . So I decided to pull the camera until I get new ones. This means it may be a couple of days until I post more pictures . But I also need to shoot more with my crossbow . Michigan is allowing hunters in zone 3 to bow hunt with a crossbow this season so I jumped on that , since I was a kid I thought crossbows were cool so this year I get to try using one for hunting . So far in my practicing it is very accurate . Like I said before very cool .

Hello my name is Paul this is my first attempt at creating a blog . I have been told to blog about things you enjoy doing . Well I enjoy deer hunting so that's what this is all going to be about . My sons Jeffrey and David also hunt with me when they get the chance .
We have enjoyed over the years recounting stories of our shared adventures . But now Jeff lives in Marquette Michigan and Dave goes to night school so I am going to keep a running account of this deer season . So that we can still recount the daily happenings of this deer season .
